On May 3, Coretta Scott King Magnet School in University Park celebrated a major milestone—20 years as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Magnet School—with a community pancake breakfast that brought together families, staff, alumni, and local leaders.

An IB magnet school offers a rigorous, globally focused academic program centered on critical thinking and inquiry-based learning, attracting students from across the district. At CSK, this approach has helped shape well-rounded, globally minded learners for the past two decades.

The celebration featured remarks from Joseph E. Roudez III, Mayor of University Park, Superintendent Dr. Kara Coglianese, Board President Maurice Brown, Board Member Dr. Todd Hall, IB Coordinator Lakisha Carter, Myetta Ali, Assistant Principal at Monee Elementary and former CSK assistant principal, and a student speaker, all highlighting the school’s impact and legacy.

The district extends its gratitude to the Village of University Park for sponsoring the event, as well as to the many families, staff, administrators, board members, and community members who attended. The celebration served as both a reflection on 20 years of excellence and an exciting look ahead into the future.
